Headache Treatment
with Navel Acupuncture
Most headaches are not truly “hard to treat.” When the underlying pattern is identified correctly, symptoms often improve much faster than expected.
Does your headache look like this?
You CAN benefit from James Navel Acupuncture if you have one or more of the following:

✓ Acute headaches
pressure, throbbing, heaviness, tightness, or dull pain anywhere in the head

✓ Post-accident or sports-injury headaches
including whiplash or post-traumatic headaches

✓ Sinus-related headaches
head pressure or heaviness linked to nasal congestion or allergies

✓ Chronic headaches
recurring for months or even years, sometimes fluctuating in intensity.

✓ Post-surgical headaches
persistent or recurrent head pain following brain, head, neck or other surgeries

✓ Headaches with neck or shoulder issues
stiffness, soreness, or limited movement accompanied by head pressure

✓ Migraines
recurrent attacks, one-sided or bilateral, with pressure, fullness, or pulsating pain

✓ Tension-type headaches
squeezing or tight head pain often linked to stress, mental strain, long hours at the computer, or poor posture.

✓ Headaches associated with structural findings
such as vascular or nerve compression, or tumors confirmed by medical imaging.
Headaches are often closely related to neck tension, stress, or sleep imbalance.

🌿How Navel Acupuncture Helps Treat Headaches?
Understanding the Treatment Approach
Navel Acupuncture approaches headaches differently from treatments that focus only on the location of pain.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, headaches are often not just a problem of the head itself. They are commonly seen as a reflection of the body’s overall regulatory imbalance, which may be related to disrupted Qi and blood circulation, emotional stress, long-term strain, or past injuries.
Why the Navel Can Influence the Whole Body
Navel Acupuncture works by using the navel as a central regulatory point. In traditional medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8), regarded as an important life center and a gateway that connects the body’s overall Qi circulation.
From a whole-body perspective, the navel is closely related to multiple meridian systems and internal regulatory networks. By applying precise acupuncture around this area, it is possible to mobilize the body’s Qi circulation and help restore yin–yang balance and internal coordination.
Because of this “regulating the whole body from the center” approach, Navel Acupuncture often uses fewer needles and lighter stimulation, yet can produce deeper systemic effects.
Changes Patients Often Experience
In clinical practice, many patients often experience several changes during treatment, such as:
• Headache relief
• Deep physical relaxation
• Reduced neck and shoulder tension
• Improved mental clarity and overall well-being
These changes often indicate that the body’s internal regulation is gradually returning to balance.
Individualized Diagnosis
During treatment, I combine consultation, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, navel examination, and palpation, guided by the principles of Yi Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to design individualized Navel Acupuncture treatment plans.
How Navel Acupuncture May Help
Through this whole-body regulatory approach, Navel Acupuncture may help to:
• Promote the smooth flow of Qi and blood to help relieve pain
• Restore balance within the organ and meridian systems
• Relax the body and mind, helping reduce stress
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Every headache is different, and treatment is always individualized. Some patients respond quickly, while others require more gradual regulation.
The following are general clinical references based on typical treatment responses:
Acute headaches
Often show clear improvement within 1–3 sessions.
Chronic or recurrent headaches
Symptoms commonly begin to stabilize after 3–6 sessions.
Stubborn or long-standing headaches
(Usually associated with a long history or multiple contributing factors)
Often require one to two courses of treatment, typically about 5–10 sessions.
Headaches related to trauma, structural findings, or surgery
Examples include:
-
Headaches after car accidents or sports injuries
-
Headaches associated with tumors, cysts, or other findings on imaging
-
Post-surgical headaches
These cases usually require individualized evaluation based on medical findings, and the number of sessions can vary significantly.
Overall, the number of treatments varies from case to case.
🌿 Treatment Notes
Before Treatment
Please review the Precautions for Navel Acupuncture before your treatment.
If you have recently undergone medical tests, imaging examinations, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist in advance.
During Treatment
Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild soreness, pressure, or slight discomfort during needle insertion may occur and is generally considered normal.
In most cases, the more relaxed the body is, the milder the sensation will be.
Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please remain relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension during the session.
After Treatment
It is recommended to rest briefly after treatment. Drinking warm water may help support circulation and metabolic adjustment. Please avoid excessive physical exertion and exposure to cold or wind.
Many headache patients experience noticeable relief during the same treatment session.
In some cases involving more severe or long-standing conditions, a small number of patients may experience temporary reactions after returning home, such as:
• temporary symptom aggravation
• mild skin itching or rash
• diarrhea
These responses are generally considered part of the body’s regulatory process and usually resolve on their own. If necessary, please return for follow-up assessment.
