🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Elbow Pain?

Understanding the Treatment Approach

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, elbow pain is often related to the flow of Qi and blood along the meridian pathways that travel through the arm.

When these pathways become obstructed due to overuse, repetitive strain, injury, or long-term tension, symptoms such as pain, stiffness, weakness, or limited movement may develop in the elbow.

Activities such as repetitive lifting, computer work, sports, or previous injuries may gradually affect the circulation of Qi and blood in the arm, leading to discomfort around the elbow joint.

Why the Navel Can Influence the Elbow

Navel Acupuncture regulates the body from its center.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8) and is considered an important gateway for regulating the movement of Qi throughout the body.

By applying precise acupuncture around the navel, it is possible to activate the body's Qi circulation and help restore smoother flow through the meridian system. As overall circulation improves, tension or blockage affecting the elbow may gradually ease.

Individualized Diagnosis

During treatment, I combine consultation, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, navel examination, and palpation, guided by the principles of Yi Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to design individualized Navel Acupuncture treatment plans.

How Navel Acupuncture May Help

During treatment, many patients gradually notice changes such as reduced elbow discomfort, improved flexibility, and easier movement in daily activities.

As the circulation of Qi and blood becomes smoother, tension around the elbow may lessen, and the arm may feel more relaxed and functional.

In some cases, patients may even notice improvement during the same treatment session, while continued treatment helps support more stable and lasting recovery.

🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?

Every elbow pain condition is different. Treatment is individualized.

The following are general clinical references:

Acute elbow pain
Often shows clear improvement within 1–3 sessions.

Chronic or recurrent elbow pain
Commonly stabilizes after 3–6 sessions.

Stubborn or complex elbow pain
(Long history, multiple contributing factors)
Usually requires 1–2 courses of treatment, about 5–10 sessions.

Elbow pain related to trauma or surgery
Requires individualized evaluation based on medical findings.

The number of sessions varies from case to case.

🌿 Treatment Notes

Before Treatment

Please review the precautions for Navel Acupuncture before treatment.

If you have had any recent medical tests, imaging, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist.

During Treatment

Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild pain or soreness during insertion may occur and is normal.

In general, the more relaxed you are, the milder the sensation.

Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please stay relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension.

After Treatment

Rest after treatment. Drinking warm water may help support circulation and metabolic adjustment. Please avoid excessive exertion and exposure to cold or wind.

Many elbow pain patients notice improvement during the same treatment session.

In rare cases involving more complex conditions, some patients may experience temporary soreness, stiffness, fatigue, or mild changes in arm or elbow sensation after returning home, usually on the following day or later.

These are considered healing responses. Please do not be overly concerned and return for follow-up assessment as needed.
