helping restore balance and neuromuscular control.
Does your Facial Nerve Disorders look like this?
You CAN benefit from James Navel Acupuncture if you have one or more of the following:

✓ Facial weakness or asymmetry (commonly known as )

Recurrent pain triggered by speaking, chewing, or touch
🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Facial Nerve Disorders?
From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective,
facial nerve disorders are often related to disruption of qi and blood flow in the meridians, imbalance of internal regulation, and impaired neuromuscular coordination.
Navel acupuncture works primarily through the Shenque (CV8) point,
which is regarded as an important interface connecting congenital and acquired regulatory systems.
Shenque maintains close relationships with multiple physiological systems, including the nervous system.
Through systemic regulation centered on Shenque,
navel acupuncture helps:
-
Restore coordinated nerve signaling and muscular response
-
Improve circulation of qi and blood in affected areas
-
Support the body’s intrinsic capacity for neurological recovery
Facial nerve disorders are considered one of the clinical strengths of navel acupuncture,
and improvement is often observed early in the treatment process.
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Facial nerve–related conditions often respond relatively quickly.
In many cases, noticeable changes can be observed even after the first session.
However, the total number of treatments depends on the severity, duration, and individual response.
For acute or mild cases, only a few sessions may be required.
For more complex or long-standing conditions, a longer treatment course is recommended to stabilize recovery.
🌿 Treatment Notes
Before Treatment
If you have had any recent medical tests, imaging, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist.
Please review the precautions for Navel Acupuncture before treatment
During Treatment
Sensations vary from person to person.
Mild pain or soreness during needle insertion may occur and is normal.
In general, the more relaxed you are, the milder the sensation.
Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment.
Please stay relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension.
After Treatment
After treatment, allow the body adequate time to rest and avoid returning immediately to strenuous activity.
Drinking warm water after treatment may help support overall regulation.
Please avoid excessive fatigue and exposure to cold or strong wind.
Some patients may experience mild, temporary sensations such as fatigue or subtle changes in facial feeling.
These responses usually resolve on their own.
If significant or persistent discomfort occurs, please contact your practitioner.
During the treatment period, maintain a relatively regular lifestyle.
In the early phase of recovery, avoid excessive facial strain, prolonged tension, or intense emotional fluctuations.
Emotional stability supports neurological recovery.
Maintaining a constructive and steady mindset—rather than being driven by fear or anxiety—can assist the body’s natural healing process.
When appropriate, gentle breathing exercises, light activity, and adequate rest may further support nervous system stabilization.
Clinical Cases
Acute Bell’s Palsy
Female, 40+
Sudden onset of left-sided facial paralysis for 3 days after exposure to cold.
Symptoms:
Loss of forehead wrinkles (left)
Incomplete eye closure
Flattened nasolabial fold
Mouth deviated to the right
Air leakage when whistling
Difficulty puffing cheeks
Mild pain behind ear
Sensitivity to wind and cold
Western diagnosis: Bell’s palsy (acute stage)
Patient was already taking steroids and B vitamins, with no significant improvement before acupuncture.
Treatment Progress
After First Session:
Eye closure improved
Mouth deviation reduced (about 30–50%)
Facial tension softened
Cold sensitivity reduced
After 3–5 Sessions (within 1–2 weeks):
Eye closure nearly normal
Nasolabial fold restored
Puffing cheeks without air leakage
Facial symmetry significantly improved
After 8–10Sessions (4 weeks total):
Facial movement returned to normal
Expression symmetrical
No obvious sequelae
Outcome
This was an acute peripheral facial nerve palsy case treated alongside conventional medical therapy.
Recovery progressed steadily over 2–4 weeks, with early visible improvement after initial sessions and full functional restoration within one treatment course.
