Ankle Pain Treatment
with Navel Acupuncture
Once the specific ankle pain pattern is identified, navel acupuncture can often relieve ankle pain efficiently—sometimes within the same treatment session—while improving stability, mobility, and weight-bearing comfort.
Does your ankle pain look like this?
You may benefit from James Navel Acupuncture if you have one or more of the following:

✓ Ankle or Peri-Ankle Pain, Stiffness, or Swelling (Including Gout-Related Symptoms)
Aching, stiffness, weakness, swelling, or reduced mobility affecting the ankle or surrounding area.
In some cases, this may include gout-related episodes, such as acute redness, swelling, warmth, and pain.

✓ Post-Injury or Post-Surgical Ankle Pain
Residual ankle pain, stiffness, or movement limitation following sprains, falls, fractures, or surgery.
Often accompanied by protective tension or compensatory walking patterns.

✓ Weight-Bearing, Activity-, or Overuse-Related Ankle Pain
Ankle pain that appears or intensifies during walking, standing, stair use, weight-bearing, or physical activity.
Symptoms may ease with rest but tend to recur with use.
Common in active individuals, athletes, or physically demanding work.

✓ Degenerative or Imaging-Related Ankle Pain
Ankle pain associated with degenerative changes such as cartilage wear, joint space narrowing, or imaging-reported findings.
Pain is often deep and persistent, aggravated by activity, with limited relief from rest alone.
🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Ankle pain?
Understanding the Treatment Approach
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ankle is influenced by several important meridians, including the Taiyang, Shaoyang, Yangming, and Taiyin channels of the leg.
When Qi and blood do not circulate smoothly through these pathways, symptoms such as pain, stiffness, swelling, weakness, or limited mobility in the ankle may arise.
Repetitive strain, sports injuries, prolonged standing or walking, previous sprains, or degenerative changes may gradually disrupt the flow of Qi and blood in these meridians, leading to discomfort, instability, or difficulty bearing weight.
Why the Navel Can Influence the Ankle
Navel Acupuncture works by regulating the body from the center.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8) and is regarded as an important gateway of the body’s vital energy. It plays a key role in coordinating the movement of Qi and blood throughout the body.
By applying precise acupuncture around the navel, the body’s internal circulation can be stimulated and rebalanced. As Qi and blood begin to flow more smoothly, tension, blockage, and imbalance affecting the ankle region may gradually ease.
Individualized Diagnosis
During treatment, I combine consultation, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, navel examination, and palpation, guided by the principles of Yi Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to design individualized Navel Acupuncture treatment plans.
How Navel Acupuncture May Help
In clinical practice, many patients gradually notice improvements during treatment, such as:
• Reduced ankle pain or discomfort
• Improved ankle flexibility and range of motion
• Greater stability when standing or walking
• Increased comfort during weight-bearing activities
These changes often suggest that Qi and blood circulation in the meridians is improving and the body is moving toward a more balanced state.
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Every ankle pain condition is different, and treatment is individualized.
The following are general clinical references:
Acute ankle pain
Often shows clear improvement within 1–3 sessions.
Chronic or recurrent ankle pain
Commonly stabilizes after 3–6 sessions.
Degenerative ankle pain or gout-related ankle pain
Response varies depending on joint condition, symptom severity, flare patterns, and overall health status.
Stubborn or complex ankle pain
(Long history, multiple contributing factors)
Usually requires 1–2 courses of treatment, about 5–10 sessions.
The treatment plan and number of sessions are determined case by case.
🌿 Treatment Notes
Before Treatment
Please review the Precautions for Navel Acupuncture before your treatment.
If you have recently undergone medical tests, imaging examinations, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist in advance.
During Treatment
Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild soreness, pressure, or slight discomfort during needle insertion may occur and is generally considered normal.
In most cases, the more relaxed the body is, the milder the sensation will be.
Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please remain relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension during the session.
After Treatment
It is recommended to rest briefly after treatment. Drinking warm water may help support circulation and metabolic adjustment. Please avoid excessive physical exertion and exposure to cold or wind.
Many patients experience noticeable relief during the same treatment session.
In some cases involving more severe or long-standing conditions, a small number of patients may experience temporary reactions after returning home, such as:
• temporary symptom aggravation
• mild skin itching or rash
• diarrhea
These responses are generally considered part of the body’s regulatory process and usually resolve on their own. If necessary, please return for follow-up assessment.
