Low Back Pain Treatment
with Navel Acupuncture
Once the exact pain location and underlying cause are identified, navel acupuncture can often provide rapid relief for lower back pain and help restore normal movement and comfort.
Does your Low Back Pain look like this?
You can benefit from James Navel Acupuncture if you have one or more of the following:

✓ Acute Low Back Pain
Sudden onset of lower back pain due to twisting, lifting, awkward movement, or strain.
Pain may be sharp at first and followed by protective muscle tightness.

✓ Structural or Degenerative Low Back Pain
Deep, persistent lower back discomfort associated with stiffness, postural changes, or imaging-reported degeneration.
Pain is often dull or heavy rather than sharp.

✓ Post-Injury or Post-Surgical Low Back Pain
Residual lower back pain, stiffness, or sensitivity following trauma, accidents, or surgery.
Often accompanied by protective tension or reduced confidence in movement.

✓ Chronic or Recurrent Low Back Pain
Lower back pain lasting for months or years, or recurring frequently.
Pain intensity often fluctuates with workload, stress, or sleep quality.

✓ Disc-Related Low Back Pain
Lower back pain related to disc changes such as bulging or protrusion.
Often aggravated by prolonged sitting, forward bending, or long periods of driving.

✓ Posture- or Work-Related Low Back Pain
Lower back discomfort related to prolonged sitting, repetitive bending, lifting, or work posture.
Short rest may help, but symptoms tend to return.

✓ Radiating Low Back Pain or Sciatica
Pain radiating from the lower back to the buttock, hip, thigh, or lower leg.
May present as pulling, burning, numbness, or nerve-type discomfort.

🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Low Back Pain Pain?
Understanding the Treatment Approach
There is a saying in traditional medicine: “The key to treating the lower back lies at the navel.”
In other words, an important point for effectively addressing lower back problems is the navel itself. This principle has been repeatedly confirmed in clinical practice.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, low back pain is often not merely a local structural problem.
It frequently reflects an overall imbalance in the body’s regulatory function, such as impaired circulation of Qi and blood along the meridians, chronic spinal tension, postural strain, or the lasting effects of previous injuries affecting the lumbosacral region.
Why the Navel Can Influence the Whole Body
Navel Acupuncture works by using the navel as a central regulatory point.
In traditional medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8) and is regarded as an important life center that connects the body’s overall Qi circulation.
From a whole-body perspective, the navel is closely related to multiple meridian systems and internal regulatory networks.
By applying precise acupuncture around the navel, it is possible to stimulate the movement of Qi and help restore yin–yang balance and coordination among different body systems.
Because of this “regulating the whole body from the center” approach, Navel Acupuncture often uses fewer needles and lighter stimulation, yet can produce deeper systemic regulatory effects.
Changes Patients Often Experience
In clinical practice, many patients experience changes during treatment, such as:
• Relief of lower back pain or stiffness
• Reduced tension in the lumbosacral and pelvic region
• Greater comfort when standing, walking, or bending
• A general sense of physical relaxation
Individualized Diagnosis
During treatment, I combine consultation, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, navel examination, and palpation, guided by the principles of Yi Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to design individualized Navel Acupuncture treatment plans.
How Navel Acupuncture May Help
Navel Acupuncture may help to:
• Promote the circulation of Qi and blood through the meridians, helping relieve pain
• Improve coordination between the spine, pelvis, and lower limbs
• Support internal organ balance and enhance the body’s natural self-healing ability
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Every case of low back pain is different, and treatment is individualized.
The following are general clinical references:
Acute low back pain
Many patients experience clear improvement within 1–3 sessions.
Chronic or recurrent low back pain
Symptoms commonly stabilize after about 3–6 sessions.
Stubborn or complex low back pain
(Long history, disc involvement, or nerve-related symptoms)
Usually requires 1–2 courses of treatment, typically about 5–10 sessions.
Low back pain related to trauma or surgery
Requires individualized evaluation based on medical history and clinical findings.
The number of sessions varies from case to case.
🌿 Treatment Notes
Before Treatment
Please review the Precautions for Navel Acupuncture before your treatment.
If you have recently undergone medical tests, imaging examinations, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist in advance.
During Treatment
Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild soreness, pressure, or slight discomfort during needle insertion may occur and is generally considered normal.
In most cases, the more relaxed the body is, the milder the sensation will be.
Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please remain relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension during the session.
After Treatment
It is recommended to rest briefly after treatment. Drinking warm water may help support circulation and metabolic adjustment. Please avoid excessive physical exertion and exposure to cold or wind.
Many patients experience noticeable relief during the same treatment session.
In some cases involving more severe or long-standing conditions, a small number of patients may experience temporary reactions after returning home, such as:
• temporary symptom aggravation
• mild skin itching or rash
• diarrhea
These responses are generally considered part of the body’s regulatory process and usually resolve on their own. If necessary, please return for follow-up assessment.
