Does your thigh or lower leg pain look like this?
You can benefit from James Navel Acupuncture if you have one or more of the following:

✓ Thigh Pain (Front / Side / Back)
Aching, tightness, heaviness, or discomfort affecting the thigh.
Often worsens with walking, stair climbing, standing up, prolonged standing, or overuse and physical activity.

In more severe cases, muscle wasting or atrophy may be present, often related to nerve or neuromuscular involvement.

✓ Calf or Lower Leg Pain
Pain, tightness, cramping, fatigue, or discomfort affecting the calf or lower leg.
Commonly aggravated by walking, prolonged standing, weight-bearing, or physical exertion.

Post-Injury or Post-Surgical Leg Pain
Residual pain, stiffness, tightness, or movement limitation following injury or surgery.
Often associated with protective tension or reduced confidence in movement.

✓ Radiating Pain (From the Lower Back, Hip, or Buttock)
Pain radiating from the lower back, hip, or buttock down to the thigh or lower leg.
May present as pulling, burning, or nerve-type discomfort.
🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Thigh & Lower Leg Pain?
Understanding the Treatment Approach
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the thigh and lower leg are connected through several important meridians, including the Yangming, Taiyang, Shaoyang, and Taiyin channels of the leg.
When Qi and blood do not circulate smoothly through these pathways, symptoms such as aching, tightness, heaviness, cramping, or weakness in the thigh or lower leg may appear.
Prolonged standing, repetitive movement, sports strain, poor posture, previous injuries, or long periods of sitting may gradually obstruct the flow of Qi and blood along these meridians. As a result, discomfort, stiffness, or reduced mobility in the thigh or lower leg can develop.
Why the Navel Can Influence the Leg
Navel Acupuncture works by regulating the body from the center.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8) and is regarded as an important gateway of the body’s vital energy. It plays a central role in the regulation and distribution of Qi and blood throughout the entire body.
By applying precise acupuncture around the navel, it is possible to stimulate the body's internal circulation and help restore balance among different meridian pathways. When the body's internal circulation becomes smoother, tension and blockages affecting the thigh and lower leg may gradually ease.
Individualized Diagnosis
During treatment, I combine consultation, tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, navel examination, and palpation, guided by the principles of Yi Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to design individualized Navel Acupuncture treatment plans.
How Navel Acupuncture May Help
In clinical practice, many patients gradually notice changes during treatment, such as:
• Reduced thigh or lower leg pain
• Improved comfort when walking, standing, or climbing stairs
• A gradual release of tightness or heaviness in the leg
• Greater ease during daily activities involving the legs
These changes often suggest that Qi and blood circulation in the meridians is improving and the body is returning toward a more balanced state.
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Every thigh and lower leg pain condition is different. Treatment is individualized.
The following are general clinical references:
Acute thigh or lower leg pain
Often shows clear improvement within 1–3 sessions.
Chronic or recurrent thigh and lower leg pain
Commonly stabilizes after 3–6 sessions.
Stubborn or complex thigh and lower leg pain
(Long history, multiple contributing factors)
Usually requires 1–2 courses of treatment, about 5–10 sessions.
Thigh or lower leg pain with significant weakness or muscle atrophy
Response varies depending on the underlying cause, severity, and overall condition.
The treatment plan and number of sessions are determined case by case.
Thigh or lower leg pain related to trauma or surgery
Requires individualized evaluation based on medical findings.
The number of sessions varies from case to case.
🌿 Treatment Notes
Before Treatment
Please review the Precautions for Navel Acupuncture before your treatment.
If you have recently undergone medical tests, imaging examinations, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist in advance.
During Treatment
Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild soreness, pressure, or slight discomfort during needle insertion may occur and is generally considered normal.
In most cases, the more relaxed the body is, the milder the sensation will be.
Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please remain relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension during the session.
After Treatment
It is recommended to rest briefly after treatment. Drinking warm water may help support circulation and metabolic adjustment. Please avoid excessive physical exertion and exposure to cold or wind.
Many patients experience noticeable relief during the same treatment session.
In some cases involving more severe or long-standing conditions, a small number of patients may experience temporary reactions after returning home, such as:
• temporary symptom aggravation
• mild skin itching or rash
• diarrhea
These responses are generally considered part of the body’s regulatory process and usually resolve on their own. If necessary, please return for follow-up assessment.
