🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Anxiety?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, depression and low mood are not viewed as purely psychological conditions.
They are understood as conditions in which emotional vitality becomes weakened, reflecting an imbalance of the whole body.
TCM views the body, mind, and spirit as an integrated whole. When emotional activity becomes depleted over time—due to prolonged stress, illness, exhaustion, or life strain—the body’s ability to support emotional and mental function gradually declines. This commonly presents as low mood, reduced motivation, emotional heaviness, and both mental and physical fatigue.
From a whole-body perspective, the navel plays a unique regulatory role. The nervous system, vascular and lymphatic networks, as well as both the congenital and acquired meridian systems, are closely connected with the navel area, forming an important center for whole-body regulation and recovery.
In TCM, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8), where “Shen” refers to the mind and spirit, and “Que” means gateway. Clinically, emotional and mental states are often reflected in the abdomen, such as weakness, tightness, or a lack of vitality, highlighting the close relationship between the abdominal region and emotional regulation. Shenque is also located along the pathways of the Ren and Du meridians, which are closely related to emotional balance and mental stability.
Based on this understanding, navel acupuncture treats depression and low mood on three interconnected levels:
Regulating the body – restoring physical vitality
Calming the mind – easing emotional heaviness
Stabilizing the spirit – supporting inner clarity and steadiness
Once the underlying pattern of depression or low mood is identified, navel acupuncture often helps the body gradually return toward balance, allowing energy to recover, emotions to soften, and mental clarity to emerge naturally.
🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?
Each person’s emotional state is different, so treatment frequency is individualized.
Most of patients notice a sense of calm, physical relaxation, or emotional lightening during each session.
For long-standing low mood or depression—especially when accompanied by sleep issues, chronic stress, or physical symptoms—a more sustained course of treatment is often needed.
Progress is reviewed regularly, and the treatment plan is adjusted based on individual response.
