✓  Emotional Trauma & PTSD-like Symptoms

If you have experienced a significant emotional shock, trauma, or prolonged stress,
and afterward one or more of the following symptoms persist over time,
clearly affecting daily life, emotional stability, or sleep,
you may be experiencing an emotional trauma or PTSD-like regulatory state:

  • A constant sense of tension or alertness, with difficulty truly relaxing

  • Heightened sensitivity to sounds, environments, or emotional stimuli

  • Emotional reactions that are easily triggered and feel amplified

  • Avoidance of certain places, people, conversations, or situations

  • Emotional withdrawal, shutdown, or a sense of numbness

  • Light sleep, frequent dreaming, or waking easily

  • Sudden episodes of palpitations, chest tightness, or abdominal tension

  • An urgent need to urinate or have bowel movements when feeling tense or stressed

Many patients describe it this way:

“I know logically that I’m safe, but my body reacts with tension before I can stop it.”

🌿How Does Navel Acupuncture Treat Anxiety?

Many people feel doubtful or surprised that Navel Acupuncture can address such a wide range of emotional and trauma-related conditions.

From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, however, this is not unusual.

TCM understands the body, mind, and spirit as an integrated whole, in which the five organs, five emotions, and five aspects of spirit are deeply interconnected and continuously influence one another.

Because of this holistic understanding, Navel Acupuncture works through the meridian system to regulate multiple layers of the body simultaneously, rather than targeting isolated symptoms.

From a whole-body perspective, the navel holds a uniquely important regulatory position.

Several major regulatory systems—including nervous system activity, internal organ coordination, and the meridian network—are closely connected with the navel region, making it a key center for influencing the body’s overall state.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the navel is known as Shenque (CV8).
“Shen” refers to the mind and spirit, while “Que” means gateway.

Clinically, emotional trauma and prolonged stress are often reflected in the abdominal region, such as chronic tightness, guarding, or an inability to relax. This highlights the close relationship between the abdomen and the body’s emotional and defensive responses.

Shenque is also located along the pathways of the Ren and Du meridians, which play a central role in regulating overall balance, internal stability, and emotional regulation.

Based on this understanding, Navel Acupuncture approaches emotional trauma and PTSD-like symptoms on three interconnected levels:

Regulating the body, allowing long-held physical tension and defensive patterns to release

Calming the mind, easing emotional reactivity and heightened alertness

Stabilizing the spirit, supporting the restoration of inner steadiness and a sense of safety

When trauma-related regulatory patterns are addressed at this level,
the body is often able to gradually exit its persistent state of alert.

As physical tension eases and internal stability improves,
the system can naturally return to the present moment—without force, suppression, or repeated reactivation of painful memories.

🌿How Many Treatments Are Usually Needed?

The number of treatments needed varies depending on the individual, the duration of symptoms, and the body’s overall regulatory capacity.

For milder or more recent trauma-related symptoms, some patients notice meaningful changes—such as improved relaxation, better sleep, or reduced reactivity—within the first few sessions.

For individuals with long-standing symptoms, significant nervous system sensitivity, disrupted daily rhythms, or coexisting chronic conditions, a more systematic and ongoing treatment process is usually required to support deeper and more stable regulation.

Rather than using a fixed or mechanical treatment plan, each session is adjusted according to the body’s response and ongoing changes, allowing progress to unfold at a pace appropriate for the individual.

🌿 Treatment Notes

Before Treatment

Please review the precautions for Navel Acupuncture before treatment.

If you have had any recent medical tests, imaging, or are currently receiving other treatments, please inform your acupuncturist.

During Treatment

Needle sensations vary from person to person. Mild pain or soreness during insertion may occur and is normal.
In general, the more relaxed you are, the milder the sensation.

Navel Acupuncture is a safe acupuncture treatment. Please stay relaxed and avoid unnecessary tension.

After Treatment

After treatment, allow yourself time to rest.
Drinking warm water may help support overall regulation.
Please avoid excessive exertion and exposure to cold or wind.

For emotional and trauma-related concerns, it is especially important to follow natural rhythms.
Whenever possible, try to go to bed earlier and maintain a regular sleep schedule.
Avoid excessive mental stimulation before sleep, such as prolonged phone use or overthinking.

Ongoing self-care plays a supportive role during treatment.
Simple practices such as gentle stretching, relaxed breathing, quiet sitting, or meditation may help the body settle and adjust.

When conditions allow, spending time in natural environments—such as sunlight, fresh air, open spaces, greenery, water, or soil—can provide a calming and stabilizing effect, supporting emotional balance and overall well-being.
